The Role of MRI in Diagnosing Meniscus Injuries

MRI is now considered the standard non-invasive method for diagnosing meniscus injuries, offering high accuracy in detecting meniscal lesions.

In MRI images, meniscus tears are categorized into four main groups:

  • Group I: A small area of the meniscus with increased signal intensity.

  • Group II: A linear area with increased signal that does not extend to the articular surface.

  • Group III: Abnormal signal increase that reaches the articular surface or the outer margin of the meniscus from one side.

  • Group IV: Abnormal signal increase that reaches the articular surface or the outer margin of the meniscus from both sides.
